Colleen and Misty walk into a bar

The Netflix Marvel universe is pretty well established now. There are four different superheroes and their related supporting casts, so it’s much easier to mix things up a bit. It’s not remarkable anymore when Foggy Nelson pops up to help Luke with a lawsuit. It’s exciting when Danny Rand manages to find his way uptown to fight alongside Luke. And it’s a welcome sight when Colleen Wing pays a visit to her friend Misty Knight.

Colleen only makes a brief appearance in Luke Cage season 2. She shows up to basically give Misty Knight a pep talk and help her deal with the loss of her arm in The Defenders. Their scenes together aren’t incredibly relevant to the season’s overall plot. But they are nevertheless fantastic. Not for the least of which reason is that they tease the Daughters of the Dragon spinoff we all deserve. (And not so secretly want.)

Jessica Henwick and Simone Missick have wonderful chemistry together, and their friendship is interesting enough to add sparkle to the most mundane conversation. The scene in which the two friends go out for a drink and ultimately get into a bar fight is a highlight of season 2’s initial episodes. It’s extremely satisfying television, not just because the guys they dust up with are jerks, but because Colleen and Misty work well together as both partners and friends.

Sadly, Colleen vanishes after her one episode guest spot. This is a real shame, and not just because the future Daughters of the Dragon duo is fun to watch together. It’s because Misty deserves some sliver of a storyline that doesn’t have anything to do with Luke or her job. And it was nice to watch her get the chance to focus on herself, even for just an episode.
