42 (Chadwick Boseman)

Jackie Robinson is probably one of the more iconic figures in baseball history. The first black man in the major leagues, Jackie fought tooth and nail for the respect he deserved and, eventually, received.

Played by the Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman’s early career was filled with playing real-life figures. Maybe because he’s just that talented but from Jackie to James Brown, Chadwick has tackled quite the prominent list.

The only issue with 42 is that it is very much a white man (Harrison Ford) doing the work when it should have focused on Jackie Robinson and his accomplishments. Jackie was such an incredible man that the movie kind of glosses over what made him so great in order to show what he did for baseball.

All that being said, Chadwick truly shines in the movie. Especially when an opposing coach calls him racial slurs and he goes into the dugout and breaks a bat. It’s a wonderfully emotional scene and shows the ability that Chadwick has to completely embody characters that he portrays.

But we already knew that because his T’Challa has made us emotional time and time again. He just knows how to get us to care about him and that’s a very dangerous skill.
