25 favorite ’80s and ’90s teenage heartthrobs and what they’re doing now

Freddie Prinze, Jr.
What made him a heartthrob: I think it’s pretty safe to say that I Know What You Did Last Summer put Freddie Prinze, Jr. on our radar. As part of a new clique of young, beautiful folks appearing in all the movies, Prinze was a shoe-in for dreamboat of the moment with that square jaw and crooked smile.
He got a lead role in the 1999 makeover movie, She’s All That. He added to the “white jock who is mean then has a change of heart” canon, but he made it look so endearing. He went on to do a sequel for I Know What You Did Last Summer, and he brought the role of Fred on Scooby Doo to live-action.
What he’s doing now: Perhaps his greatest achievement is marrying Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar. However, professionally, he’s doing quite a bit of voiceover work. He’s lent his voice to the animated Star Wars Rebels, and Robot Chicken.
Freddie at his best: As much as I love him as a set of abs and cheekbones who can talk, he did pretty well in the drama/suspense genre. He played Cole Ortiz in a handful episodes of 24.
