25 favorite ’80s and ’90s teenage heartthrobs and what they’re doing now

What made him a heartthrob: Just a little film about a teenage revolutionary with a crew cut. Slater played Binx, sister to the blond and dangerous outlaw Billie Jean. He was platinum blond, smart-mouthed, and even though this didn’t launch him fully into heartthrob status, it certainly paved the way.
From there, Slater was cast in his breakout role in Heathers, as JD, and this was the movie that made him a household name. From Heathers grew Gleaming the Cube, and he’s been churning out legendary films ever since.
What he’s doing now: He’s winning awards in the enigmatic USA show, Mr. Robot. The show is among the promising of the last few seasons and has garnered lots of critical praise as well as audience support. I can’t tell you much about his part because practically any mention of it is super spoiler-y.
Christian at his best: True Romance, hands down. My ’90s soul can’t recommend anything better than this punky little film. Watch it now.
