18. Logan and X-23

While not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Logan (and therefore all the X-Men movies) are still Marvel properties. In the last film with Hugh Jackman as Logan (aka Wolverine), we got Old Man Logan.

Wolverine is a character that, much like Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers, doesn’t age quickly. Better yet, he can regenerate and if he’s injured in any way, he can easily fix himself. It is pretty awesome when he’s been shot and just drops the bullets out of his body.

In this movie though, they create a new mutant from Logan’s DNA, making her, theoretically, his daughter. X-23 is feisty, she is always ready to fight without thinking of the consequences and, throughout the movie, Logan teachers her how to handle that rage.

The relationship is one that had many in tears throughout the film so of course artists wanted to recreate it. This particular work is wonderful because it is just simply the two of them. No flare, no extra work. Just a sketch of these two characters that shows how much they care for each other.

Because, while it has many layers, one of the beautiful things about the Marvel Universe is the relationships between all of the characters. It’s why we keep coming back to these movies, isn’t it?
