The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
Time to head back to Greece! This time we’re taking you to the beautiful island of Santorini. Opa!
Bridget, Lena, Tibby, and Carmen have been best friends since they were babies — literally, their moms were all friends and all gave birth around the same time. For the first time in years, the friends will all go their separate ways for the summer. Bridget is going to soccer camp, Lena is heading to Greece, Carmen is visiting her dad in South Carolina, and Tibby will be stuck at home working at a department store.
Even though they’re dreading parting ways, the girls find a pair of jeans that mysteriously fits all of them despite their very different body types. They decide that the jeans must be magic and that they will use them to keep in touch with each other. They make a list of rules (including no washing them, ugh) and agree to send them to each other with a letter about what happened to them while wearing the jeans.
The teenagers all get into their own messes over the summer. Lena falls for a boy named Kostas, from a rival family in her grandparents’ town. Bridget falls for her soccer coach, which is a big no-no, and Carmen finds out some disheartening news about her father’s new life. Meanwhile, back home, Tibby is trying to make a movie and befriends a neighborhood girl who affects her more than she realizes.
If you’re looking for a lighthearted beach read for when you actually leave your house to soak up some sun, maybe try out the book of the same name! You can use your imagination to make you believe you really are in Greece with Lena, or at soccer camp with Bridget — though let’s be honest, we know where we’d all rather be.
