Sheldon Cooper – The Big Bang Theory

What’s his deal: Sheldon is an uber-genius scientist whose social awkwardness and demanding personality make him hard to deal with among his peer group. In terms of his interpersonal development, he is far behind his actual age, making him seem petulant and bratty at times.

He doesn’t drive and has strict expectations when it comes to his routines and rituals. If someone disrupts these, he becomes even more agitated and can pitch a fit that often forces his friends to comply. He is so rigid when it comes to his schedule, that it often mandates how all the other members of this group behave.

Why we love him anyway: He’s really quite lovable if you can get past all the quirks and ticks. He is often kind and thoughtful, and you can tell he’s trying to comply with social norms. He asks questions about tone and inflection, and he can tell when he’s crossed a line, for the most part.

As the show progresses through its 11 seasons, Sheldon has really come a long way. He’s even married these days, a seemingly impossible situation in those early days.

Where to find him: The Big Bang Theory is not available on Netflix or Hulu so you might not be able to catch those early episodes without purchasing them on Amazon or iTunes. However, you can watch the latest episodes on CBS’ website.
