Archie Andrews – Riverdale

What’s his deal: An interpretation of the classic character from the Archie Comics, this new incarnation of the favorite includes a strong jawline, incredible abs, and an unearned confidence about pretty much everything. Archie is meant to be the main protagonist in The CW’s Riverdale, but he comes off as more of a liability to the other characters.

He’s block-headed and well-intentioned, which can be a real problem in a town with multiple lines of crime and mystery. His ham-fisted attempts to solve some of the more nuanced problems in the town mostly result in him making things worse and forcing the other characters to clean up after him.

Why we love him anyway: I can’t really put my finger on why we continue to abide him. Yes, he’s handsome, and sure, he’s supposed to be our hero in the story, but he’s not. Maybe it’s because he is so earnest, that it’s hard to stay mad at him, or that he epitomizes the Everyman we know we have to root for.

Perhaps we still love him because the show insists we do. Every other character insists that he’s worthy of our devotion, and they all pretend like he’s a vital part of the show and town. So, I guess we will too.

How to find him: He’s over at Netflix, with his mouth hanging open, in both seasons of Riverdale. You can also catch up on The CW website or the app.
