The missing part of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is Sirius Black

In a play centered around time travel, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has some interesting cameos. But the lack of Sirius Black is very upsetting.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has a lot of cameos from characters we didn’t expect to see. Since the series is set around Albus and Scorpius using a Time Turner, they go back and mess with time in a less than productive way.

Throughout it, they bring back characters we’d rather never see again but who we don’t see is Sirius Black. It is completely plausible that he’d be around, the events take place during the Triwizard Tournament which means he’s escaped but he’s not dead yet.

So why isn’t he there? Just as part of the resistance that Ron and Hermione builds against Umbridge and the Death Eaters? There really isn’t an excuse as to why he wouldn’t be and they don’t explain it.

Surprisingly it is as if he doesn’t matter, which is devastating because he clearly does to Harry and, subsequently, James.  This series has so many characters that it is almost as if there are some pushed to the side.

To be fair, Cursed Child isn’t great for pointing out a lot of characters but still, Sirius and even Lupin don’t make any sense. They’re going back in time and rewriting history, a history that could have included them. So maybe in the sequel to the play we’ll get more of these characters.
