24. Kelly Malcolm goes to the island

The franchise is no stranger to strong women. Every movie has a great female character that, seemingly, doesn’t want to listen to whatever the man has to say and for good reason! 99 percent of the time, the women are right.

So when Kelly Malcolm, Dr. Ian Malcolm’s daughter, disobeyed his request and snuck with him back to the island to save Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore), we can’t really say that we were surprised. She is, after all, her father’s daughter and a woman in the Jurassic Park franchise. She was destined to be pretty awesome.

Also it’d be weird to introduce a character and then tell them to stay home for them to listen. What would be the point of doing so if she wasn’t going to tag along? Nevertheless, the fact that Kelly didn’t care what her father said told us a lot about her character.

To be quite honest, if Kelly hadn’t gone there against his wishes, if Ian had said she could go, it wouldn’t feel right. It set the tone for Kelly and Ian’s dynamic, Kelly as a character, and we were aware that something crazy was going to go down with Kelly on that island.
