Following the death of designer Kate Spade, her iconic brand is looking to carry on her legacy, and this means donating money to mental health causes.

Although fashion designer Kate Spade may no longer be with us following her tragic death on June 5, her famous brand has chosen to continue her legacy. On Wednesday, Kate Spade New York posted to their social media accounts sharing the news that the company plans on making donations to suicide prevention and mental health causes.

The news of the company’s decision to donate to mental health causes comes on the heels of Spade’s bother-in-law, actor David Spade, making a $100,000 donation to one of the largest grassroots mental health organizations in the country, the National Alliance on Mental Health.

In the brand’s posts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, Kate Spade New York said that in honor of their company founder, they are planning to donate money not only to causes associated with mental health awareness, but they are also planning on matching their customers’ donations. At the same time, they announced that the first donation they were making was to the Crisis Text Line in the amount of $250,000.

For people unfamiliar with the Crisis Text Line, it is a free and confidential messaging service for people who feel that they are in crisis. Anyone who texts it is connected to a trained counselor who is there to offer help and support. Not only is this a not-for-profit organization, but they are also available to anyone in need at any time.

As part of their mission to match donations, Kate Spade New York encouraged people to also make donations to the Crisis Text Line. The company promised that they would match any donations that are made from June 20 until June 29, up to $100,000.

While the Kate Spade brand has not shared the other causes they will be donating to yet, the Crisis Text Line is certainly a great organization to start with.

The brand’s announcement that they will be donating to these causes comes a day prior to Kate Spade’s funeral, which is scheduled to take place on June 21 in Kansas City. For people looking to honor the designer in their own way, they can either make a donation to the mental health organization that the brand has chosen or they can choose to honor another one of her passions, animals, and donate to the ASPCA.

Kate Spade New York is showing the world that they care, and they want to make a difference as they honor the woman who founded the brand.
