Your summer watchlist: 15 shows you can watch to beat the heat
By Sundi Rose
4. Claws
The rundown: A group of South Florida nail technicians, headed by the unbelievably cool Niecy Nash, fall in with some bad guys in an attempt to make money for a new, fancier salon. Laundering money for a pill mill clinic owned by the Dixie Mafia, Desna (Nash) and the other ladies working in the shop agree to do the work for as long it would take to raise the money for a new salon.
Of course, all sorts of terrible things happen to, and at the hands, of these ladies. And they wind up getting deeper and deeper in the hole with the bad guys. It doesn’t help that one of the boss’ sons is sleeping with multiple women in the shop, causing a lot of drama.
Why it’s summer fun: Claws is mostly a story about women, but these women are turned up to 15 all the time. Everything about them is loud and incredible, from their nails to their hair to their husbands. You could watch it on mute and still enjoy it almost as much.
Aside from the entire show being dipped in neon and brushed with acrylic, it’s a story about women succeeding, usually despite whatever awful thing a man has just done to them. And what’s not fun about watching bad guys get their due at the hands of fiercely snatched women who love and support one another, even when they are acting horribly to each other?
How to watch: The first season, in its entirety, is on Hulu, TNT’s website, and on-demand. Season 2 is currently airing, dropping new episodes on Mondays, all summer.
