“Cut To The Feeling” by Carly Rae Jepsen

If you’re not emotionally invested in the world of pop music, you may think to yourself “Carly Rae Jepsen? Has she even been doing anything since “Call Me Maybe” came out?” The answer is yes, you uncultured swine!

Carly Rae Jepsen has earned a spot in the gay icon roster thanks to her dedication to giving us catchy, bubblegum pop hits, especially after the release of her album Emotion, and its B-Side, Emotion Side B. She produces the kind of music that completely envelops you and makes you want to smile and dance like nobody’s watching, and that’s exactly the case with “Cut To The Feeling”.

“Cut To The Feeling” is pure pop joy, and can only be described as a bop. The beat builds up, and makes you want to pump your fist and scream the lyrics until your throat is bleeding. It really is bubblegum pop at its finest, and a song that makes you instantly happy is always welcome at Pride festivities. If this song comes on, you’re guaranteed to hear an audible gasp, maybe even some screams, coming from the crowd.

The song also got some attention when it was a lip sync for your life track on this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which caused a collective gay gasp around the nation. Unfortunately, it may go down as one of the worst lip syncs of the season. It should be considered a hate crime to mess up a lip sync to “Cut To The Feeling” but we’ll pardon Monique Heart and The Vixen this time, just don’t let it happen again!
