June is finally here, and that means it’s Pride Month! And what would any Pride celebration be without a fabulous playlist?
Pride Month is about so much more than partying and getting drunk. Every June is a time for the LGBTQ community to celebrate how far they have come, and to bring awareness to how far they still have to go. Today’s younger generation may feel like they have it pretty well, but they still have to know the struggles of those who came before them who made their Pride festivities possible.
With that said, Pride is still a great time for parties. People from all walks of life come together to celebrate their freedom to be who they want to be, loud and proud. It doesn’t matter who you love or where you come from, it doesn’t matter what you wear or what you look like, all that matters is that you’re celebrating!
There are some songs that are essential for any Pride playlist. There are classics from artists like Whitney Houston, Gloria Gaynor, The Scissor Sisters, Cher, and even Mama Ru herself. But we also snuck in some newer tracks that are definitely on their way to being classics in their own right, because who can resist some Britney Spears or Carly Rae Jepsen? It wouldn’t be Pride without our favorite pop queens!
Throw on some glitter, and have a happy and safe Pride. And in the wise words of RuPaul: “You betta work!”
