Legally Blonde 3 already has a release date scheduled
Forget Valentine’s Day 2020. We’re celebrating Galentine’s Day twice over with Legally Blonde 3’s newly announced release date.
Honestly, it’s kind of reassuring that at least one movie studio is moving in to reclaim the Valentine’s Day spot now that the Fifty Shades franchise has finally, finally come to a close. Sure, there could have been some romance looking to hone in, but then, in came MGM Studios and one Elle Woods to stake their claim. Yes, that’s right: Legally Blonde 3 will arrive on Feb. 14, 2020.
This entire story has moved pretty fast; reports surfaced earlier this week that talks were happening. Then, earlier today, Reese Witherspoon herself confirmed she would return for the role in a tweet.
That did enough to confirm that the movie was at least in the works, but a 2020 claim strikes us as pretty much the soonest that MGM could make all of this work.
Check out the announcement below.
Of course, 2020 is also politically significant, a point that probably wasn’t lost on MGM or anyone else involved in the production. It’s the next presidential election, and while we don’t think that Elle Woods would take the current president on directly, we also don’t think that it’d be outside the realm of probability for someone who’s not so different, shall we say, from the president to loom large in Legally Blonde 3.
But maybe Elle will run into someone completely different. After all, she dealt with sexual harassment on the big screen 16 years before #MeToo, and combined the ideas that it’s okay to be traditionally feminine and also be able to pursue her own dreams. Who’s to say that she won’t end up being forward-thinking again?
