Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger series premiere preview: First Light

It’s the series premiere of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger! Welcome to the latest teenage outing. So what’s in store for our two unlikely heroes?

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger is our next Marvel superhero outing. With Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD not returning until Summer 2019, we have a lot of time to fill. Why not spend it with superpowered teenagers?

Let’s cut right to the heart of it and then dive in. The official synopsis for these first two episodes, courtesy of Freeform:

"Two teenagers from very different backgrounds find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. The only constant in their lives is danger and each other."

I mean, it’s a pretty good synopsis for any superhero origin story. So what makes Cloak and Dagger something to watch?

Cloak is Tyrone Johnson and Dagger is Tandy Bowen and in the comics, they’re both runaways (not to be confused with Runaways). The TV show, however, takes place in New Orleans.

Tyrone’s powers involve teleporting others (and himself) to a dark dimension. He can also make himself wraith-like (think Vision any time Hawkeye tried to hit him in Captain America: Civil War). Tandy creates psionic light daggers that drain people of their vitality. They also can alleviate addiction and help Tyrone with his light hunger (it’s… very odd).

These two characters play off and support each other. Honestly, they balance each other out very well.
