The LEGO Movie 2 encourages you to get ‘intergalactic planetary’

With a perfect song choice, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is here with stellar animation to get you excited for a movie coming out next year.

A licensed tune can take a good trailer to a great trailer. That seems to be the case for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, which dropped its first look today. Sure, it’s been a few years since we last saw Emmet, Lucy, Unikitty, Benny, and Batman, but that doesn’t stop the trailer from ending up as pretty joyful, all things considered.

Okay, a large portion of that probably comes from the Beastie Boys. Yes, the Beastie Boys’ “Intergalactic” is the primary song in this trailer. Granted, it doesn’t get into the actual verse parts, since that would take this trailer probably into the non-child friendly section of things just a little bit, but the famous hook is right there for kids and adults to enjoy. (The lyrics do, however, contain a reference to “wild style,” making this a pretty clever multi-level reference.)

Check it out below:

Keep an eye out for all the little details in the animation. There are scratches on Lucy’s hair, for example, and Emmet’s reflective stripes have worn away in places.

Additionally, the trailer makes it seem as though the focus might shift to Lucy, at least in the sense that she gets to do most of the talking in this trailer. Granted, she gets kidnapped, but it’s possible that she ends up building a relationship with her kidnapper and ends up going through some character growth of her own. She’s a great character as is, but The LEGO Movie 2 can definitely improve on the steps the franchise has already taken.

What’s your favorite part of this trailer? Any LEGO franchises you’d like to see? Personally, I’m hoping for LEGO Indiana Jones, but we’re probably going to get some Jurassic Park nods.
