Shawn Mendes joins James Corden for Carpool Karaoke this week and it gets a Harry Potter twist.

James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke is a highlight for many fans of his late-night show. It’s fun to see celebrities chat about their lives and sing-along to their own songs. Plus, we get a chance to see both the singers and Corden get into the tracks the way we do. This week’s Carpool Karaoke got a little Harry Potter when Shawn Mendes joined.

It turns out the Canadian singer is a huge fan of Harry Potter. He loves the magic of the world and has even gotten nervous while meeting the cast. However, he wouldn’t say he was a superfan. Of course, his actions may say something completely different.

More from Harry Potter

During a small sketch as the two discuss Harry Potter and Mendes’ love for it, Mendes starts transforming into the Boy Wizard. While discussing being a superfan, he gets fully into his transformation but this time it isn’t the Boy Wizard. You’ll have to watch the video below for the character he chooses.

It’s not just about the costumes though. Mendes shared that he has a full book that he’s written the spells out in. He’s literally gone through all the books and movies to get every single spell, so he can learn to cast them himself. It doesn’t sound like he got the letter to Hogwarts—or Ilvermorny, which would have been his school since he lives in North America—so didn’t get the chance to use the spells.

The magic is certainly the part that drew him to Harry Potter. He loves the wands and the little candies that turn into creatures. Would he still like them if the frog decided to jump out the train?
