Smith shaves Samantha’s head (“Out of the Frying Pan”)

Like we’ve pointed out in other entries, sometimes Sex and the City does get serious, and it’s usually those moments that ended up sticking with us after all these years.

Samantha is pretty strong, though she does have her tender moments. When she announces she has breast cancer, we saw the character in a whole new light. She isn’t just a badass businesswoman. She’s a fighter, and if anyone could make it through, it would be her. Luckily, she also has some huge supporters on her side: her three best friends and a great man.

When she starts going through chemotherapy, Samantha’s hair starts to fall out. Smith notices this when the two are having sex, and it immediately puts a damper on things. Samantha worries that the whole cancer thing might be too much for Smith to deal with until he proves to her that he’s there for the long haul.

Samantha decides to shave her head to combat her hair falling out, but Smith comes home just as she’s shaving it. When he notices, that’s when she tells him that he could never relate to what she’s going through. So what does Smith do? He grabs the clippers and starts buzzing off his own luxurious blond locks, much to Samantha’s shock, and then tells her he will finish her head next.

Being involved with someone who’s battling cancer is not easy, but Smith proved he was more than just a hot, young boy toy right at that moment. He shaves off his trademark locks just for Samantha so that she wouldn’t have to go through shaving her head alone. How thoughtful is that?
