As I wrote this list of 20 of the best Sex and the City moments, I realized… has it really been 20 years since the iconic television series hit the airwaves? And is the Carrie Bradshaw meme overdone yet?
Sex and the City aired its first episode on HBO 20 years ago, on June 6, 1998. Over the last two decades, the show has become a hit, impacted an entire generation of women (and men), made household names out of its stars, and spawned two feature films. If that wasn’t enough, the show has also made a lasting cultural impact, which is the reason we still care so deeply about the show over 14 years after the series finale.
To celebrate this iconic show’s 20th anniversary, we decided to compile a list of 20 of the best moments from Sex and the City, in no particular order. This show was groundbreaking for the way it portrayed sex and the modern woman, and it also tackled some difficult storylines like cancer, infertility, abortion, and adultery, and that’s why people are still talking about it after 20 years.
Who could forget the hilarious (but heartbreaking) Post-It breakup, or when Miranda’s cleaning lady finds her “goodie” drawer? Some of these scenes made us laugh, and others made us cry, and sometimes, those were the best moments, because they were real.
