Ugly Betty

Fresh off the set of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, America Ferrera starred in (what I consider) her signature role in the absolutely endearing Ugly Betty, in which she appeared in a less than flattering look through the whole series.

Ferrera plays the title character Betty, a pluck, ambitious young woman, fresh out of college, who goes to work at very prestigious and successful magazine. Betty is smart, savvy, and hard-working, but her look sets her apart from her posh colleagues.

Betty is the voice of reason, the kind heart, and the conscious of the show. She’s sweet and charming, and her looks serve as an ironic reminder that beauty comes from the inside. Surrounded by beautiful yet vapid coworkers, Betty’s resilience and compassion is a warm reminder to not concede any part of yourself for anybody.

Betty is confident and brave, even when she’s the butt of joke after joke. She understands her worth, and won’t accept less than she deserves. Listen up, ladies. Betty is doing it right, and if you’re considering dating someone who is even the slightest bit iffy just because you’re tired of being single, check in to Ugly Betty. It won’t let you down.

Where to watch: You can watch all the seasons of Ugly Betty on Hulu, but if you need to own it for your own wellbeing, you can do so via Amazon.
