Doria Ragland is our Wonder Woman of the week due to her inspiring work and how she warmed our hearts while watching her daughter Meghan Markle wed Prince Harry.

Doria Loyce Ragland stole the spotlight on Saturday, May 19, as she smiled through her tears watching her daughter Meghan Markle’s and new son-in-law Prince Harry’s wedding. Staying poised despite suddenly finding herself pushed into the limelight, Doria impressed viewers with her strength and love for her daughter. She sat alone during the ceremony, watching as her daughter became British royalty.

Here’s why Doria Ragland is a woman we admire this week.

While the royal family proceeded in overflowing cars from their mansions, Doria stayed by her daughter’s side in the hours leading up to the ceremony. Meghan Markle and Ragland rode together to the chapel, with Doria then slipping away to sit alone through the ceremony.

Doria Ragland bonds with Prince Charles

For many viewers, one of the most memorable moments of Prince Harry’s and Meghan’s wedding ceremony occurred when Harry’s dad Prince Charles and Meghan’s mom Doria joined hands. Charles isn’t exactly viewed as a man who wants to hug and embrace everyone, but the gentle smile on his face and hand extended to Ragland showed a different side of Prince Harry’s father. The memorable moment occurred when Doria, Charles, Meghan, and Harry left the chapel temporarily to sign the register.

Meghan Markle’s mother stuns with style as Twitter rocks for nose ring

Doria chose the perfect wedding style for the royal occasion. Her green dress was designed by Oscar de la Renta, and Ragland stayed in step with the royal family by wearing a cocktail hat. June McLeod, color consultant, told Good Housekeeping that green symbolizes “growth and rebirth,” while the white floral pattern on Doria’s gown stood for “wholeness and unity — fitting for a wedding.” The color consultant also described white as encouraging its wearer to “be more open-minded, forgiving, and to accept new reality with greater clarity.”

And then there was that nose ring, which turned Twitter into a fan fest for Ragland.

Above all, pointed out the New Yorker,  the mother of the bride provided a “profound presence.” At 61, after working as a social worker and yoga teacher in California, Doria Ragland has made a lasting impression upon the world.

Meghan Markle’s delightful description of ‘free spirit’ mom Doria Ragland

Meghan and Doria have a famously strong mother-daughter bond, and Markle has shared her insights and admiration of Ragland. Prince Harry’s new wife once wrote that her mother is a “free spirit.”

Raised mainly by her mom rather than her dad Thomas Markle, Meghan has revealed that she and Doria “have so much fun together, and yet I’ll still find so much solace in her support.” In summing up her mother, Markle once offered this description in a blog: “Dreadlocks. Nose ring. Yoga Instructor. Social Worker. Free spirit. Lover of potato chips & lemon tarts.”

Like Meghan, Ragland is a dog lover. When she’s not teaching a yoga class or helping others as a social worker, Doria is often seen walking her dogs. Ragland’s careers in yoga and social work are seen as contributing to Markle’s own free spirit and desire to make the world a better place.

Royal family observers noted that Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, would have loved Doria. We can’t wait to see what is next for Ragland, who recently left her mental health clinic job due to paparazzi. She may soon join her daughter and son-in-law in changing the world.
