Why Harry Potter fans should watch C.B. Strike

C.B. Strike is the latest book-to-series adaptation for J.K. Rowling. Is this something that Harry Potter fans will like? Here are four reasons it is.

C.B. Strike airs in the U.S. from June 1. Based on the novel series by J.K. Rowling, the series will run seven episodes to complete the current trilogy of books. The series of books were written under Rowling’s pen name Robert Galbraith, but does that mean it’s not for Harry Potter fans?

As a Harry Potter fan and a Strike fan, I would say there are many reasons to delve into Rowling’s new world. Here are four reasons Harry Potter fans should watch C.B. Strike.

More from Harry Potter

It has Rowling’s world development

Unlike Harry Potter, the series about P.I. Cormoran Strike is set in the real world. There’s no magic (that anyone knows of, at least) and no wizarding war coming up. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of world development. It’s just a development of a different kind.

The development is around Strike’s character and his secretary Robyn. The series focuses on their pasts and how they affect who they are now. There’s a focus on how pasts can come back to haunt but how they create expectations from others, which is something that Potterheads will know all about.

You’ll connect to the characters

Like with Harry Potter characters, there are character traits that you will instantly connect to. You’ll find there are people you love, you hate, and those you wish you’d get to know more about. Rowling has this ability to make her characters feel like real people and become three-dimensional, even when they’re not even alive in the present day!

The connection to characters is something Potterheads love about their series. It’s certainly something you’ll find appealing with this real-world series.

There’s a mystery (or three) to unravel

Rowling does not make anything easy and that’s definitely the case with C.B. Strike. The novels are full of twists and turns, with mysteries that you need to unravel. If you loved the search for the Horcruxes, you’ll definitely enjoy the search for the person behind the murders.

You’ll also find yourself second-guessing your own thoughts. There are clues throughout and everything builds with pieces of a jigsaw coming together.

British actors playing British characters

One of the best things for me about the series itself is the British actors who play the characters. Having the authentic British personalities and accents shine through is always powerful. You can focus purely on the acting and storytelling, instead of trying to figure out what’s wrong with an accent.

It’s also a purely British production with a British set. You’ll feel like you’re really there, in the way that you do when watching Harry Potter.
