Nicki Minaj announced on Twitter that she’d be donating money to help pay for college fees for some students. Students are ecstatic that she’s creating this spur-of-the-moment scholarship.
There’s a lot happening with Nicki Minaj right now. Not just that she’s dropped her single “Big Bank,” or that she kind-of-not-really said she was dating Eminem — but she’s giving back to her fans in a great way.
The rapper tweeted on Thursday that she’d be creating her own scholarship campaign to help out a few college students in need.
She then followed up, telling students exactly how to grab her attention. Unlike most scholarships out there that require you to write lengthy essays, this one was quite simple. All a student had to tweet using the hashtag #StudentOfTheGame, and explain how much money they needed and why.
The hashtag quickly populated on Twitter with many students hoping to be among the lucky few to get a donation from Minaj. The thread was filled with bright students who explained that their debt was one of the barriers putting them in a bind. Some students’ fees ranged upwards of $10,000.
Those figures are in-line with the average cost to attend college in the United States. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reported the average cost of attendance at a public 4-year institution was about $38,000 in the 2014-2015 school year. Depending on any number of factors, that number could be substantially higher.
It doesn’t need to be said that the US is in the midst of a student debt crisis. So Minaj’s offer is incredibly generous to help out the struggling students who could use the big help.

The rapper didn’t say how much money she plans on giving away. Although, she did reveal that within the next three days, the lucky recipients will finally hear back from her.
