The Sims 4 Seasons expansion pack is finally coming out, but is it too late?

The Sims 4 is finally getting a Seasons expansion pack filled with lots of new content. But has the game’s reception made this expansion a late-comer?
Leave it to EA to barely surpass a video game-lover’s expectations. Save all the stuff that went down with Star Wars: Battlefront II. The Sims is often just enough of a mess on its own.
The Sims 4 is finally getting its Seasons expansion pack on June 22, 2018. But, really, something like this should have come much sooner.
To clarify some things first, The Sims 4 Seasons pack didn’t take longer than The Sims 3 one to come out. They both took about 4 years to release the base game and the seasons-themed expansion pack. Although, given how The Sims 4 came out the gate with a pretty underwhelming release, something this flashy should have come much earlier to keep audiences playing.
The expansion pack boasts lots of new add-ons. These include a four-season cycle with new weather elements, seasonal activities like ice skating, and a new gardening career. (We’re also certain this update gets a lot of new chairs, a clear fan favorite for those buying expansion packs.) And while all that is fine and will enhance the gameplay, we really could have used something like that sooner.
Critics agreed that while The Sims 4 was a brilliant-looking game, it lacked a certain quality that would have taken it from good to great. Even IGN reviewed the game saying, “Even though it’s fun, it’s a big letdown that this sequel doesn’t inspire the same wow factor that The Sims 3 did” which is pretty much spot on.
Fun customization elements were missing, there were no pools or toddler life stages in the first release, and the game put itself back into a closed-world environment. I would forgive all that if, right off the bat, we had something like season cycles, pets, or a wider array of career options.
So while it’s okay that we’re finally getting these updates slowly but surely, I’ll likely wait until this pack is on sale to try it out. My interest, like others, for The Sims 4 wasn’t immediately grabbed in the beginning and because of that, a new expansion pack isn’t going to get audiences leaping at the chance to come back and play.

If EA does continue on with a fifth Sims game, they’ll have to step it up a bit more. It wouldn’t be fair to get another bare-minimum game that slowly gets new, better features.
