Jessica Jones

From the Marvel universe, Jessica Jones is not really your typical superhero. Much like some of our heroines in Riverdale, she’s kind of the anti-superhero.

The premise: A moody and beautiful woman has super powers, but she is victimized by a terrible man and she has to retreat into obscurity.

Jessica opens a private investigation agency in Hell’s Kitchen, where she specializes in cheating husband and debtors. Although she’s not what you would call “happy,” she’s getting by until her former victimizer returns to her life. She has to overcome his influence while also trying to heal herself in the process.

Why you’ll like it: It’s not your average Marvel story. Jessica is no Captain America, grappling with PTSD, depression, and survivor’s guilt. It’s not always going to end in a happy ending and she’s probably not always going to do the right thing.

Where to find it: Netflix, of course. The first season explores Jessica’s current problems, but season 2 really delves into her backstory and how she got to be the way she is.
