Dynasty (CW)

Speaking of remakes, the CW recently rebooted the campy 1980s drama Dynasty, and this one definitely won’t last nine seasons.

Like the original show, Dynasty is a soapy, over the top, glamorous television drama created by the people who brought us Gossip Girl, and it aired after Riverdale when it first premiered. However, the show was moved to Friday nights, which is usually the kiss of death for television shows — the time slot where good shows go to die.

But the difference in 2018 is the power of Netflix. Dynasty is also uploaded weekly on Netflix, which no doubt is helping the show stay afloat. People love shows they can easily binge on the streaming service, whether they’re good or mediocre.

Dynasty is generally well reviewed, while some say it pales in comparison to both its predecessor as well as Gossip Girl. The show definitely did not have the same impact as the CW’s other new drama, Riverdale, which has become a phenomenon.

Unfortunately, this show just won’t compare to the original, even if it’s a worthy remake that lasts for years to come. The original show is still being talked about today for a reason, and that’s because it was dramatic, extravagant and pure soapy goodness. Nobody will be talking about the 2017 reboot of Dynasty once it goes off the air. They’re barely talking about it now that it’s on the air.

Remember when CW rebooted Melrose Place back in 2009? Exactly. Nobody does, and that’s probably what will happen to this show, unfortunately. But we’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
