Man with a Plan (CBS)

If only the Friends curse could’ve killed this one. Can we sacrifice this show to the TV gods to get the Friends reunion special we all deserve?

Man with a Plan stars Matt LeBlanc, of Joey Tribbiani fame, and after getting picked up for a third season, we were definitely left scratching our heads. This show is as stereotypical and played out as most CBS comedies. This show could have aired in the 1990s or the 2000s and be exactly the same. Think Everybody Loves Raymond, but not as funny.

Man with a Plan is your typical sitcom about a bumbling useless husband and a jerky wife that has been done so many times before. It isn’t exactly a topical, modern plot by any means. It’s about a man who is left to balance running a business and raising his kids when his wife decides to go back to work. What year is this, 1955?

The show definitely feels like a lazy, mid-season replacement rather than a hit sitcom. But unfortunately, it seems like it’s here to stay, for now.

The worst part is that the show doesn’t even get good reviews! Generally, critics hate the show, and it has a 21% on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, Rotten Tomatoes’ critical consensus states: “Man with a Plan‘s flawed, unimaginative writing fails to properly showcase the charm of its unfortunately underperforming lead.”

If a show doesn’t even have the critics on its side, and doesn’t have a huge online following or something, how is it still alive? Who on earth is keeping this show going? It doesn’t make any sense!
