Marvel could be bringing Muslim superhero Ms. Marvel to screens sooner rather than later

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that Ms. Marvel, one of Marvel’s few Muslim superheroes, is part of the studios’ plans to expand the MCU.

Even though the Captain Marvel movie is still being filmed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe already has plans for what’s next in the Captain Marvel universe. Now, we know that Ms. Marvel will make her way to the big screen soon; we’re just not sure when.

What makes Ms. Marvel (whose real name is Kamala Khan) so amazing is that not only is she a great female superhero, but she’s Muslim as well. She debuted in 2013, and she is one of the very few Muslim characters in the Marvel Comics world.

Marvel Studio’s President Kevin Feige spoke with BBC News, saying the studio definitely has plans to bring the character in the MCU.

“Ms. Marvel, which is another character in the comics, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works,” Feige said. “We have plans for that once we’ve introduced Captain Marvel.”

It’s possible that Miss Marvel was one of the superheroes Feige and other Marvel executives discussed as they began to map out the next seven years of MCU films. The contracts for the original Avengers begin to reach their end with Infinity War and Avengers 4. That’ll leave space for an array of new comic book characters to take to the screen — and Marvel has plenty of characters. Maybe, with Captain Marvel and Miss Marvel, the studio could even work on that all-female Avengers movie we’re begging for.

While the character for the screen is in development, all eyes are now on who could play the Kamala in the movie. Some have said that Priyanka Chopra would be a good fit for Ms. Marvel since she voices her in the Avengers Academy video game. But others have argued that a younger actress should play the character since Kalama Khan is a teenager after all.
