Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s cancellation stirred widespread outrage among fans. But their cries online might help revive the show already.
That famous scene from Brooklyn Nine-Nine where Andy Samberg as Jake Peralta screams while playing the guitar is an accurate depiction of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine fandom right now.
The show was canceled on Thursday by Fox after 5 seasons, and that left many fans in dismay. The beloved comedy had meant so much for fans, especially with its reputation of portraying race, gender and sexuality better than most TV shows out there.
So without skipping a beat, fans all over banded together to create the #RenewB99 movement on Twitter because, oh, did they want their show back.
Even a few celebrities chimed in on the conversation. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Mark Hamill, in particular, were very vocal about how much they loved the show. Even the Backstreet Boys shared a hilarious throwback moment to when their song was featured on the show.
Soon, the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine spoke out on Twitter to show support to their loyal fans in need.
But, following such an outpour of support for the show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was quickly on the road to being revived. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that there are already some networks eyeing to pick the series back up. Among them are major ones like NBC and TBS. Streaming services like Netflix and Hulu are also in the mix to potentially pick up the show.
All of these places are making a smart decision, and it’s not clear how Fox could drop a television series with such a huge fanbase. Although Fox has a history of creating lackluster one-and-done television shows, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is not one of those. It pushed the boundaries of representation in television (for example, this season featured an episode where Detective Rosa Diaz came out as bisexual). For a comedy, that was a rarity fans couldn’t find elsewhere.
If anything, the show and its fans would deserve an additional season just to get a proper ending for their favorite characters — seeing how it was dropped so suddenly.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s fifth season has two episodes remaining. The show airs Sundays on Fox at 8:30 pm E.T., and hopefully those won’t mark the series’ final episodes.
