Dancing with the Stars: Athletes: Week 2 power rankings
The team dances
Team ’50s Tennis: 33 (8, 9, 8, 8)
With a swing/jive combo to a remix version of “…Baby One More Time” of all things, everyone had a chance to show off; Tonya and Sasha as well as Chris and Witney definitely rocked their individual sections a touch more than Josh and Sharna and Kareem and Lindsay, but not too much. However, while there was some energy, it just didn’t feel quite as cohesive as Team ’70s Football.
“There’s not quite a 10 in this routine,” Len said, but then said “lovely job.” Carrie Ann called Josh out for being out of sync in the beginning. That’s basically why Team ’50s Tennis lost out to Team ’70s Football.
Team ’70s Football: 37 (9, 10, 9, 9)
Granted, Team ’70s Football definitely had the better song over Team ’50s Tennis. There’s no denying that. But a great song doesn’t automatically guarantee a better dance. Fortunately, Team ’70s Football came to play in that arena as well, leaning really hard into the disco side of things and coming out with a high-energy, well-choreographed production.
Adam and Jenna had to go first individually, and they did just fine, but man, Mirai and Alan just knocked it out when they went third. However, Arike and Gleb and Jennie and Keo also came out and went for it. That dance had more content and energy … and also Afro wigs to counter the Elvis costumes. “I had so much fun!” Bruno said. “Little bit of hustle in there,” Len pointed out, and he sounded very pleased … and Carrie Ann and Rashad danced.
