Get your students registered for this year’s Scholastic summer reading challenge, where they can track their minutes reading Harry Potter and more.

The summer reading challenge is a fun initiative by Scholastic to get kids reading more. Teachers and educators can sign up their students who want to take part. But you’ll need to be quick, as the pre-registration for this summer’s challenge ends on May 7.

The Harry Potter books are on the list of suggested reading. This year is a special one, as 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” being released in the United States. All minutes reading the Harry Potter books will count towards the challenge.

More from Harry Potter

This isn’t just a way to get kids reading more. It’s a way to open minds and imagination. Students will log the minutes they’ve spent reading through the books and teachers and educators can track the timings to make sure all minutes are accurate. After all, there is a prize at the end for the winners of the challenge!

Some changes have been made to this year’s summer reading challenge. It’s no longer possible for parents to sign their children up for the challenge independently, which means it’s important for teachers and librarians to listen out for any students wishing to participate. Even if you’re not sure, you can put out the question to your classrooms. Parents can encourage their children’s teachers to sign up, too.

The challenge takes place from May 7 to September 7. All minutes read should be logged between these dates. On September 26, the amount of minutes for schools will be logged and a winner in each state will be announced.
