Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery wand tips: How to get the wand you want

If you’re looking for a specific wand in the new Harry Potter game, you’ll want to answer the question in one of these four ways.

While it doesn’t look like the different wands affect the game experience in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, there’s often something about getting a particular type of wand. You may want the one that you landed at Pottermore or you just like the sound of a specific type.

To get a wand from Ollivander’s shop, which is one of the first things you will do, there is a response you need to make to a statement. That response will determine the type of wand you get. In Beta, there were four wands available and four responses:

  • Blackthorn
  • Inflexible hornbeam
  • Acacia
  • Maple

The last is the one that has been removed. It was a 12-inch maple wood wand with a unicorn hair core. You would have needed to respond with “I wanted answers” to the statement from Ollivander.

I was determined

This response will get you the blackthorn wand, which is 11 ¾-inches with the unicorn hair core.

I was angry

This will get you the dragonstring core inflexible hornbeam wand.

I felt sorry for him

This will get you the 12-inch acacia wand, which is another with the unicorn hair core.

Differences in the wands

When it comes to the real Harry Potter world, there are differences in the magic you will produce from your wands. Unicorn hair cores offer the most consistent magic, which is why it’s one of the most popular choices. The core is also the most loyal to a person and harder to turn to the dark arts. Incidentally, Draco Malfoy had a wand with a unicorn hair core, which may connect to that part of him that didn’t fully turn.

Dragonstring cores offer the most power and are the ones most commonly used for larger spells. They are also the most likely to turn to the dark arts.

One core that is missing is the phoenix core, which is the rarest but offers the most range once a person has grown in their abilities.
