Harry Potter’s Evanna Lynch shows the realities of cosmetic testing on animals
By Callum Gunn
There has been a huge movement in cruelty-free products around the world, but testing on animals still happens.
Evanna Lynch, who played Luna in the Harry Potter movies, showed the realities of these cosmetic tests on animals.
It’s easy to not believe the horrors that go on in cosmetic testing labs. While there has been a movement away from animal testing, there are still many “cruelty-free” products tested on animals.

In a YouTube video starring Harry Potter’s Evanna Lynch, she shares that many companies practicing “cruelty-free” testing methods will still test on animals when the products are sold in parts of the world, like China.
Deciding to show just what really happens, Lynch took to YouTube to go through some of the testing stages. Helped by her “torturer,” Chad, she takes on three of the tests. While the video is relatively light-hearted, the consequences of the tests aren’t. The very first one shows chemical burns on her face that will likely include some permanent scarring.

All the tests are completely real. The effects you see on Lynch aren’t makeup. In the end, she suggests that if you’re not happy about the testing and the results, you should likely make sure the products you buy really are cruelty-free. The only way to stop this happening is by hitting the companies where it hurts—in the pockets of the bosses.

The video was produced by and in support of PETA. This isn’t the first time the two have worked together, as Lynch shared vegan-friendly cooking recipes to support the animal product-free lifestyle.
