How good … or how bad … is Avengers: Infinity War? Rotten Tomatoes has given its first score of the film, based on critical reviews.
It might not be the sole arbiter of a film’s quality, but the initial score given to a film by Rotten Tomatoes has become one of the biggest indicators of how good or how bad a movie actually is, as ranked by critics from around the world. Now that the embargo for reviews has lifted, the review site has worked its magic. Avengers: Infinity War has a score.
That score is 90.
Update, 10:00 a.m. EDT, April 25: The film has settled down with a score of 87, and now has a Certified Fresh rating as well. Looking at top critics only, that score drops to 73 — but is still Certified Fresh.
Time to breathe a few sighs of relief, right? Even though pretty much every tease has been nothing short of epic, Marvel does know how to cut a really good trailer and hype up its fanbase for even some of the films of lesser quality that are parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yes, we know that all of our favorite heroes will be there — and our favorite non-heroes, too — but Avengers: Age of Ultron taught us that that doesn’t guarantee a good movie, either.
While we’ll have to wait for all the reviews to trickle in, this is an early positive sign. You can read the snippets of reviews already on Rotten Tomatoes’ site. We here at Culturess will also have our own review — and all the analysis you can handle, from speculation on what’s next to in-depth breakdowns of key moments — this weekend and going into next week.

After all, as Rotten Tomatoes’ own page says … this movie runs over two hours long and nearly hits two hours and 40 minutes. Suffice it to say that there are going to be a lot of things to break down.
