While the first season had a mystery to it, the second season of Legion seems to be a little lackluster. Is that because of the focus on the Shadow King?
With Legion, we grew used to going on a psychedelic journey through the mind of David Haller, but this season is now just all about the Shadow King, a character we’d rather not focus on. Sure, Farouk was interesting when he was in the mind of David, but now, he’s almost just a spectacle.
Time and time again, we’ve talked about how Legion lacks a certain sense to it. What it lacks in understanding, it makes up for in style. This season, though, the style can’t really carry the story. With everything going on, there is almost too much and not enough at the same time.
The main problem with the Farouk storyline is that Lenny and Oliver are both far more interesting than Farouk himself. Their weird dynamic and dance moves make them a storyline we’d much rather see. But since the show can’t exactly focus on too many things at once, we only get glimpses of them.
To be quite honest, the best part of this entire season thus far has been the weird dance off in the first episode that didn’t really make any sense … but that didn’t matter. We just wanted more Aubrey Plaza and Jemaine Clement dancing.
Maybe as the season goes on, the show will get back to exploring David and the relationships surrounding Division 3 instead of on Farouk finding his body. Because, if you’re like me, you don’t particularly care about Farouk. In the meantime, though, we have to sit through tripping desert scenes and more of this magic man who wants to destroy the world.
