The Annabelle doll in New Line Cinema’s horror film “ANNABELLE COMES HOME,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release. /

Annabelle – A connection to Raggedy Ann and … Ellen DeGeneres?

Annabelle is one of the only movies on this list that is a sequel, or prequel, to another movie. But when dealing with a haunted doll, much like with clowns, a film is automatically considered horrifying. They’re just so creepy!

Annabelle is a prequel toThe Conjuring, but this one isn’t based on true events. The Annabelle doll is real, and paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren did work on the case of the possessed doll, but the story portrayed in the movie is a work of fiction.

The real-life Annabelle doll is not the creepy porcelain doll that is portrayed in Annabelle and The Conjuring. The real toy is actually a large Raggedy Ann doll. The filmmakers felt like a Raggedy Ann doll wasn’t creepy enough, and they used a porcelain doll instead. Porcelain dolls are universally creepy, so it’s not a huge surprise that was the direction they went in.

To this day, the real doll is still in the special case built for it in the Warrens’ occult museum.

One person you probably never expected to have a connection to a movie like Annabelle is Ellen DeGeneres, but she actually has a pretty fun link to the horror movie: it was filmed in her old apartment!

The apartment used in the movie was actually the first apartment Ellen lived in when she moved to LA. She told this story on her talk show, about how she thought the building looked familiar when she was watching it, and then realized she had lived there! “It was scary back then, too,” she joked.
