Harry Potter and the curse of the hot actors playing adults

If you’re like me, you are a child of the Harry Potter generation. The downfall? Many of us were attracted to much older actors because of the series.

When it came to the actors of the Harry Potter series, there was no denying their attractiveness. We all had our crushes. Whether it was Emma Watson as Hermione Granger or one of the twins, we had our favorite and that was that.

The problem? Some of us loved those adults. Which is weird when you think about it. For me, the most attractive Gary Oldman has ever been was when he was playing Sirius Black. I fell in love with this character when reading the third book, when I was 12, and kept on loving him throughout them movies, realizing years later that I was attracted to him.

It’s a very weird concept to grasp because this is a man who, at the time, was in his forties. And here’s little me in love with him. Obviously now, as an adult, it makes me realize how weird it was growing up that many of us loved the adults in the series almost more than the kids (who were our ages).

Why is that? Who knows, that’s a question for psychologists, not me. Still though, to this day we idolize the adults almost more than we do the actual children we’re supposed to be rooting for. It is a weird phenomenon and maybe one that only applies to me, but still.

It’s just too bad that they don’t make Gary Oldman look like Sirius Black for every movie he does. The Darkest Hour would have been very interesting if that was the case.
