My Plain Jane – Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows and Brodi Ashton
The Lady Janies series recently became a huge hit throughout the young adult book community. Each novel in the series is a historical retelling centered around a figure by the name of Jane. Following but not sequential to My Lady Jane, My Plain Jane tackles the tale of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre — just with a few minor distinctions.
For starters, the synopsis indicates that our dear Mr. Rochester is hiding something far more sinister than a mad woman in the attic. And frankly, that’s saying something. Jane also may not be marrying Mr. Rochester, a twist of epic proportions for anyone who has read the original text. But reader, she married him! Not this time.
While we’re on the topic of dissimilarities, My Plain Jane also features a bit of ghost hunting. It’s really nothing major; just Jane, Charlotte Brontë herself and the new and improved love interest searching for the supernatural. A completely normal Tuesday, really.
But seriously, does this book sound amazing or what? My Plain Jane hits shelves June 26, and the only thing to do is run out and buy it immediately. Let me repeat for emphasis: Jane Eyre and ghost hunting. Mark that date on your calendar.
