Legion season 2 episode 3 review: Chapter 11

Want to go on a confusing maze trip into the minds of the Legion characters? Well, lucky you, because that’s what this week’s episode had in store.

Legion has always been about trying to figure out David Haller. Or at least that’s what the first season led us to believe. Season 2 is a little more intense. With the discovery of mute Syd, David has to battle with helping get Farouk back to his body and not letting more people die at the hand of the Shadow King.

The problem? The show isn’t nearly as interesting as it was in season 1. Yes, it is still a trippy journey through the minds of those mutants surrounding David at Division 3 but also there comes a time in a superhero show when you want more substances with your outlandish and, so far, Legion isn’t necessarily giving it to us.

This episode, David was both the target of the monk’s mental disease while also being the cure. So a lot of the episode was spent with David trying to help those in Division 3 escape the maze in their mind. Which, in theory, sounds cool but led to a rather boring episode, much like the week before.

Really, the only thing of interest in the last two episodes was David Haller delivering a monologue to a cat. But then maybe this is the way Legion is gearing up for the rest of the season. Sometimes you need a slump to get to the climax of your show and, hopefully, that’s what this is.

If not, Legion needs to figure out a way to bring us back to that weird David Haller exploration that we loved in the first season. They can keep the dance numbers and Jon Hamm narrating the show in though. Those are fun.
