RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race

The premise: It’s a reality competition show in which past contestants return to compete against other fan faves for a place in the Drag Race Hall of Fame. The contestants go head to head in challenges that run the gamut from makeup, lip-synching, camera-readiness, and all around entertainment.

Why you’ll love it: The simplest reason is that it is just plain entertaining. The sheer overload of bright, kitschy, visually stunning “lewks” are enough to keep you watching. I promise you could watch this show on mute and still love every second of it — from Trixie Mattel’s cotton candy-dipped Barbie homage to Chi Chi’s insanely glamorous makeup looks.

There is also an incredible amount of talent among the contestants. They have to meet the challenges with enthusiasm and grace — and do so while wearing eight-inch heels. They must have agility and physical ingenuity. The latest season, for example, has a violinist and an autoharp player. These aren’t your average queens, folks. They are super-charged, cream of the drag crop, and they are a downright delight to watch.

We’re the not the only huge fans of the franchise (check out the non-all star series if you like a less seasoned contestant). The show attracts a lot of really interesting and unexpected guest judges. You won’t be surprised that Lady Gaga was on the parent show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, but you might be surprised to learn Nancy Pelosi made a recent cameo. That’s right. The House Minority Leader of the House of Representatives sat right along side RuPaul for the night.

How to watch: You can watch recent episodes on LogoTV’s website or catch all the way up on Amazon.
