After 13 episodes, Black Lightning wraps up its first season this week. So, here’s what you can expect from the finale, “Shadow of Death: The Book of War.”

As expected, The CW renewed Black Lightning for season 2. No surprise there, right? It’s only one of the network’s best shows, both in terms of diversity and tight writing. In addition to holding a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts the highest rating of any superhero show on the network. Viewer-wise, it’s pretty on par with other shows on The CW, though.

Unfortunately, Black Lightning wraps its first season this week. But fans won’t have to wait long before they can re-watch the episodes either. As always, The CW shows will head to Netflix just a week (eight days, specifically) after the finale airs. But Black Lightning will also hit DVD and Blu-ray this summer on June 26.

This season did a really good job of laying little seeds and slowly giving the audience a satisfactory pay-off as the season progressed. It was like a very well-written domino effect, so it’ll probably be worth a re-watch to catch some of the things you may have missed.

Now, let’s check out the synopsis for the big season finale, “Shadow of Death: The Book of War”:

"The Season 1 finale: The aftermath of the showdown with Black Lightning leaves everyone reeling. Meanwhile, Tobias gathers his forces."

Obviously, last week’s episode ended with Jefferson’s brief death after taking a sharp blow to the chest from Khalil. Though Procter commanded Tobias to bring Black Lightning in alive, his death allowed Jennifer and Anissa to get him to safety shortly after they resuscitated him.

Of course, this means that Tobias will be stronger and more confident than ever now that he bested Black Lightning again, and has a major (albeit conflicted) ally on his side.
