Crossroads – Robert De Niro is apparently a huge fan of Britney Spears

Crossroads is not going down as an Oscar-winning classic. Still, as far as a fun chick flick/road trip movie go, it’s definitely an entertaining one to watch with your friends.

In Britney Spears’ big-screen debut, she plays Lucy, brainiac and class valedictorian, who decides to take a road trip across the country after graduation with her childhood friends that she lost contact with years ago.

Her friends Kit (Zoe Saldana) and Mimi (Taryn Manning) are headed to L.A., for Kit to see her fiancé Dylan, and for Mimi (who’s pregnant) to try her hand at winning a record deal. Lucy wants to be dropped off in Arizona to find her mother, who left her and her dad when she was just a little girl. Unfortunately, things don’t go well for any of them, and they have to learn to leave their old dreams in the past.

Along for the ride is Ben (Anson Mount), the moody and mysterious older guy who’s driving the girls’ cross-country. Mimi knows him from her trailer park but fails to tell the other girls about his shady past. Anson Mount almost didn’t take the role of Ben, but was encouraged by an unlikely Britney Spears fan: Robert De Niro!

Mount was working with the screen legend on the film City by the Sea when he got the script for Crossroads, which he thought was “cheesy” and “lame” until De Niro convinced him otherwise. It turns out De Niro was a huge fan of the pop star, and even agreed to run lines with Mount, with De Niro reading Britney’s parts, of course.

Britney just has that effect on people, because she’s Britney, b*tch!
