Brennan Huff and Dale Doback – Stepbrothers

Dale Doback and Brennan Huff are thrust together when their single parents meet and marry each other. Shocker: They were not happy about it. As two grown men, still living at home with said parents, this new arrangement is highly inconvenient for them. They begin their relationship at odds, fighting mostly over a drum set and whose side of the room is whose.

However, the more time these stepbrothers spend with each other, the more they realize what they have in common. They’re both stunted emotionally, and when they try to grow up a little, they fail miserably, which also brings them closer together.

The joke’s on everyone around them, though, because as much as they continue to be absolute trainwrecks, they find in each other a soul mate. I know this movie is a real farce, written and cast with some of the same folks as Talladega Nights. Still, it’s got some truly heartfelt moments.

In fact, Step Brothers could be considered the ultimate exhibition in fraternal love, brothers by blood or not. Brennan and Dale participate in a fair amount of toxic masculinity, which isn’t right. We’ll sort of give it to them though for being vulnerable with each other and authentic about their feelings. Pr-progress?

In the end, the stepbrothers find their way into adulthood and live mostly functional, adjusted successful lives. Everybody is in love, working, and still sleepwalking, and we get to see two fully grown men be in platonic love with each other. Win-win.
