Brandon and Brenda Walsh – Beverly Hills, 90210

Brenda and Brandon Walsh breezed into this famous zip code and stole our collective hearts with their Minnesota earnestness and “aww shucks” attitude. These twins represented the tried and true story of a fish out of water. Way back in those early days of season one, these twins struggled to fit into a new school far glossier than anything they were used to.

They leaned on each other to get by, exchanging a lot of wide-eyed looks with each other when things seem weird and unfamiliar. Eventually the new wore off, and the Walsh twins fell into a friend group willing to accept their heartland ways. As the seasons wore on, they got more Beverly Hills, and the people around them got a little more Minnesota.

Brandon and Brenda were positioned as opposites. Brenda was an artistic free spirit, often impetuous and reckless. Brandon was responsible and trustworthy, acting as the (often braying) dad of the group. Obviously, this caused tension between the two siblings, and a lot of storylines included them butting heads and asking their friends to take sides.

Brenda dated Brandon’s best friend Dylan of course, but then dashed off to London to follow her dream of becoming an actress. Really it was just a way to give Shannon Doherty the boot for all her bad behavior. The show transformed from a fish out of water/rags to riches series, and turned into a nighttime soap about young people with too much money-making silly life choices.
