Finally, Legion returned for its second season this week and one thing was very clear: men never return to their women the same as when they left.
Legion came back to our television screens this week and we were reminded of why we love this weird show. One of the main themes came from Melanie Bird and Syd. Melanie, who is obviously very upset by her husband, Oliver Bird, being taken by the Shadow King, talks to Syd about men.
In a very relatable moment, she points out that when men come back, they’re never really the same. While she was reflecting on the fact that Oliver returned to her while being suspended in time, it still relates to Syd and her journey with David.
While Syd has a Bella Swan-esque moment living through the months that David is gone, it still relates back to this “idea” that the men are never the same. In actuality, neither Syd nor Melanie are the same either.
But we’re taught to track the trajectory of a man rather than what a woman is going through and, while Legion is, at its core, about David Haller, it is the women of the show who have to support everything happening.
Separate from Melanie and Syd, there was a wonderful dance break where David has to have a battle with the Shadow King and Oliver Bird. Why did it happen? Honestly, who cares? This show is so weird and fun that sometimes, it is just better to appreciate these kinds of things.
So while we still have a lot of questions about the Shadow King and David finding his lost year, Legion is setting us up for a season of greatness and we’re excited.
