13 Going on 30: An unintentional connection to Bennifer 1.0
It’s always fun how things work out. When it comes to major Hollywood movies, there are bound to be some connection between the stars in some way. Sometimes that’s directly, and other times, it’s more indirect.
In 13 Going on 30, Jenna, a 13-year-old girl, wakes up as her 30-year-old self (played by Jennifer Garner) and realizes she’s a big-time magazine editor in New York City. She soon notices her life isn’t as perfect as she thought. She’s a mean person who lies and cheats to make it in the world, and she pushed aside her best friend in the world in order to be popular.
Jenna works for a (fake) magazine named Poise, where she’s an editor. Unfortunately, the magazine is struggling to stay afloat because their competitor, Sparkle, keeps stealing their cover stories and basking in the glory. When the film begins, that month’s cover star, for both magazines, is Jennifer Lopez.
J.Lo was a huge star then and now, so it makes sense for her to be a cover star. Though Lopez herself doesn’t appear in the movie, it’s still fun to point out her connection. Why? Well, at the time of filming, she was in a serious relationship with Ben Affleck.
Who could forget “Bennifer“? The duo were one of the most high-profile celebrities at the time, and it’s possibly that level of scrutiny that led to their demise and ended their engagement.
But what does that have to do with this movie?
Ben Affleck later went on to marry Jennifer Garner, the star of 13 Going on 30, and the pair had three children. It’s all full circle! Hollywood sure is a small world.
