Bridget Jones’s Diary: Moaning Myrtle strikes again

Bridget Jones’s Diary really is the quintessential rom-com. Bridget is an everywoman. She’s still single, and not getting any younger or thinner, so she vows to improve her life and look for love.

Throughout the story, Bridget finds herself infatuated with two men, Mark Darcy and her boss, Daniel Cleaver. These men are played by well known British actors (and no strangers to rom-coms themselves) Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, respectively.  But more on them later.

Like most British movies (and we’re barely exaggerating), there is a connection to the Harry Potter series. Shirley Henderson, who plays Bridget’s friend Jude, is said to often be found crying in the bathroom. Well, it seems like that’s a common occurrence, since she’s also Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter movies!

But it doesn’t stop there. The movie also stars Gemma Jones and Jim Broadbent as Bridget’s parents. If the names don’t sound familiar, let us help you out.

Gemma Jones played Madam Pomfrey, the nurse in the Hogwarts hospital wing. Jim Broadbent played Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

And Hugh Grant, who plays Daniel, also has a connection to the wizarding world of Harry Potter. if you’re trying to think of who on earth Hugh Grant played in Harry Potter, well, you’ll be thinking forever. He never made it into the franchise, but he did make it into the next movie on our list, so you’ll have to read on to find out just how he’s connected to this whole thing!
