The Proposal: Your loss, Julia Roberts

Sandra Bullock is, without a doubt, one of the queens of romantic comedies. Along with stars like Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lopez, and Meg Ryan, there’s nobody who does a rom-com quite like these ladies. But sometimes, these actresses are fighting for the same roles, and sometimes, they seriously miss out on a good one.

In the early stages of development for The Proposal, Julia Roberts was the first choice to play Margaret, the pushy boss who needs a green card ASAP. However, the star refused to take a pay cut for the movie, so the part went to Sandra Bullock. Bullock really knocked it out of the park, and her chemistry with Ryan Reynolds helped make the movie a hilarious hit.

This happens all the time in Hollywood, but she apparently missed out on more than one good part that year.

That same year, she turned down the role of Leigh Anne Tuohy in a little movie called The Blind Side. Tuoy was the Texas mother who took in a homeless teen and welcomed him into her family despite his troubling childhood. He then went on to become an All-American football player and NFL draft pick.

That role went to — you guessed it — Sandra Bullock. In case you forgot, Bullock ended up winning an Oscar for that role. Once again, she gave a stellar performance and got rave reviews. Julia probably could have given an Oscar-worthy performance too, but she missed out!

Do you think Julia Roberts ever wakes up screaming over the roles she missed out on? Nah, she’s doing just fine for herself.
