Legally Blonde: A less satisfying ending

Legally Blonde is the ultimate revenge movie. Elle Woods goes to Harvard in order to get her man back, but when she gets there, she finds out he got back with his stuffy ex-girlfriend, and they got engaged. She fights to get him back by proving she can be just as professional and lawyerly as his fiancée, Vivian.

In the end, she realizes she doesn’t need him because she’ll never be good enough for him. So to get back at the guy, she strives to do her best and succeed for herself.

But the movie almost didn’t have some of the juiciest payback scenes. Towards the end of the movie, Elle confronts Warner after winning her big case. Now she’s the one in control, and she wants nothing to do with him.

Later on, at their graduation, we find out just how successful Elle has become, and how average Warner is. However, both of these scenes almost never happened.

When they tested the movie’s original cut, audiences were disappointed that she never got revenge on her ex and wanted to know what she was up to after her first year at Harvard.

Those two scenes needed to be shot after filming wrapped. Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Davis (who played Warner) were filming movies in London, so that’s where they filmed. Since it was a while later, some of the stars looked a little different.

Witherspoon, for example, had cut her hair for another movie, and Luke Wilson had shaved his head, so they both wore wigs. All the shots of Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair and Wilson were filmed separately and edited in later, since they were in Los Angeles.
